K i know many on this site who can,t handle playing the black keys on the acc. Its like the black keys are VERBODEN to a lot of acc players, those black keys are there for a simple reason--- to play them! and oh yes i have known many acc players who transposed songs to be played only in simple key signatures like f-c - g, well nadda nadda dudes, i play the arrangement in the key it is writtin in, a lil bit of practise is all you need to play in any key signature, nothing comes easy and that can be said for music too, if you practise hard at it, then its a pice of cake, in fact i take it as a challenge to play in those flat & sharp key signatures,, man if some of you dudes could just see some of the polka arrangemnets i have and play, it would drive you bonkers. cromatic runs in trips in e flat, yea that kind of stuff or running trips in the key of e &b to name a few,, i am not saying i am a gifted player, its that i was taught this from age 10 on how to do it and it sure was not from a high school music teacher, The only problem i have playing in like d flat-g flat, that is hard on the left shoulder esp with a 27 lbs double tone chamber acc, its just a matter of self disipline and you can do it, heck if i can do it so can you! the strange thing i found about the acc is that when you are playing it, you really don,t get the full impact of the instrument cuz you are behind it, i learned tis from my acc teacher,, go in a small room and have another peep play it for you and stand right in front of it,, those notes if played well well go right through yer body and make yer hair stand on end, its the most awesome felling i ever felt, and if any of you want some of my polka arrangements, just let me know i would be happy to send you some via snail mail,, aka i don,t have a printer scanner, just would like to see some of you play like blandbomshell polka. oh yes i have all that stuff. most of my stuff was arrangend by ken morey from mass,, ya know thats were all the good music schools are from, ie-the newengland states.

Hi Edward,
What convinced you that so many players on these forums don`t play the black keys?
Is it possible for you to post a video of yourself playing one of your mind blowing polkas arrangements with cromatic triplet runs.
And are you sure all the good music schools are in the New England states?

OH Hi Ed,
I`m not a youngster anymore and I have heard most of the good polka bands "live" being I`m close to the Springfield Ma , Ct, area. We still have a lot of good ones playing the area from Pa,NY, and New England. My wife is Polish so I`m no stranger to polkas and obereks.
However , they can get monotonous too. I enjoy them but I`d much rather play or hear something more towards the classical aspect of music.
too and were probably better accordion schools there too.
I did find you on utube and and listened to some of your polkas and I must compliment you on your good work with your accordion.

Hello again Ed,
You aren`t a wise guy , but I did feel compelled to reply to some things you write such as many here don`t play black keys, and anything less than a full size accordion with a full compliment of keys and buttons isn`t any good for a student.
You are right ,I don`t recognize any of your polkas but that doesn`t mean anything either. There are tons of polkas and obereks out there and probably mostly written by the many polka band leaders themselves.
I didn`t really hear anything that blew my mind but you do sound good , and your right hand chording is very good , surely as good as most accordionists that play in a good polka band.
I`m sure I could find at least a few of your polkas that I would like to learn but my time is limited on this earth and I`d rather spend my playing time with music that is more conventional vs ethnic , something more to the classical side.
Cheers, and enjoy your polkas.

thank you geo oh yes i am into and play classical & semi clasical too, one of the 1 st semi classical songs i learned at age 12 was comedions gallop, ha ha don,t ask me to play it now, forgot i lot of the left hand stuff on it,, i just now play basic errr dance music cuz that is were the money is,, he he never got a call to play mozart or beetoven at a night club, it the sort of thing i do just in the privacy of my home now, heck yer older than me and even i have nev er had a rq at a dance gig to play willaim tell overture,, thats for the concert hall if you know what i mean or a high school type of thing concert, but i do know my acc teacher he taught me those old polish polka tunes as he said it is the stepping stone to the clasical stuff, cuz thatg music has all that stuff in it, the 16th runs, key moudulations, all that stuff, accent marks staccto , all of it,, but as you know as a musican, when you play a wedding, that kind of stuff, the people want tunes to dance too,, not mozart, but heyh its fun playing for those type of gigs, happy music plays for happy people,,, geez i am surprised that you living in the new-england states never heard of some of those big polka bands, they were very preveleant back yrs ago in that area, 10-16 pice orchestras who not only played polkas & obereks, but many of the big band ear songs from the likes of glenn miller, tommy doresy and many others, hint hint, i am 42 yrs old and my fav big band that i seen on youtube, oh yes guy lambardo & his royal canadians,, my fav of all the big bands, guess i was just born to late as i would have loved to have been in a place were a big band of any type was preformimg. and sice you are from the new england area, oh yes those polka bands at the time were big too, 10 ton 16 pice orchestras,,, never heard that in pearson but it must have been something really so kewel to hear....

Hi Ed,
Well I have heard of almost all those big bands although few if any of them live. Some of them have most certainly played in North Adams Ma before I was even born.(1942)
A couple of them were The Paul Whiting orchestra who played here at the Meadowbrook arena and so did Rudy Valley and his Connecticut Yankees. North Adams was considered a big band town. The bands supposedly drew well there back then.(dance craze erea)
Glenn Miller and the Dorsey`s were probably here at one time or another too.
Out of western Ma the polka bands of the 50`s, 60,s, and 70`s such as Larry Cheski, Happy Louie, Al Solek ,The Romanowski Bros, Gene Wisniowski , and the Connecticut Twins just to name a few.
Let`s not forget Little Wally (Chicago)and Lenny Gomulka and the Chicago Push polka band. And how about Jimmy Sturr who is still out there playing soon at Hunter Mt?
Add in the Polka family from Pa , the Polka family out of Albany, and Edddie Forman out the Hadley area , all currently active bands. Yes, I`ve heard a good many of them thru the years . At 70 yrs I`ve pretty much heard them all.
Personally I think Jimmy Sturr is by far the most polished , best balanced, and smoothest polka orchestra since Al Soyka and the Walt Solek era, but that`s just my opinion. See(Jimy Sturr , "Touched by a Polka")CD.
Yeah, we had our share of top class music here but we weren`t alone. A lot of good music came out of Pa and Chicago too.
Yeah I agree you won`t get a lot of calls for classical accordion music these days but conversely a good life long polka accordionist playing out on weekends hasn`t much of a chance at becoming a world reknowned accordion virtuoso either , so we all gotta play what makes us happy. PS: My wife is playing polkas (all day long) as I write this.
